My review of "Medieval Church Law" posted by JLR

I recently had the pleasure of reading and reviewing (for Hamline University's Journal of Law and Religion) a fine work, Medieval Church Law and Origins of the Western Legal Tradition (2006), edited by Drs. Wolfgang Muller (Fordham University) and Mary Sommar (Kuttner Institute). A collection of some two dozen articles in four languages, this book is a festschrift in honor of the esteemed legal historian Dr. Kenneth Pennington, long of Syracuse Univeristy and lately of Catholic University in Washington DC. Practicing canonists need to set aside more time to appreciate the discoveries and insights being offered by researchers in allied disciplines, and this handsome volume from CUA Press is a fine place to start.
